UPDATE: What happened to our Telraam traffic counter?
We did it!
On April 20, we published our update on our donor-funded Telraam traffic counter, and that we had temporarily installed on 208 and 84 Avenue due to various difficulties finding a suitable location that would work with the device.
That very same day, a homeowner on the trail reached out to me, letting me know that they would be willing to host the counter and that they had a great view of the trail. After some back and forth we were able to connect, and meet up. Their home had a nearly perfect unobstructed view of the trail, with no intersections and very little foliage in the way. This was our lucky break!
The counter has now been relocated and installed there, this time outside in a weatherproof box, as per the homeowners preference. We were able to get it mounted in a non-destructive way, and we are already getting data!
The counter is located on the segment of the trail between 208 Street and 209 Street and you can see the statistics online at https://telraam.net/en/location/9000011148
(we have reached out to Telraam to eliminate the erroneous car and truck counts)
We backed up the data from when it was installed on 208 Street and the counts from this short period are still visible. Eventually we may be able to reinstall a counter back there if we can secure the funding!
We can now monitor and gather the data needed to track the impact removing the maze gates will have on the trail, before and after the Township of Langley eliminates them from this route.
Thank you again to everyone who supported, everyone who helped and offered to host counters, and our current host for making this possible.
