Community Bike Rides & Meetups
Join our WhatsApp Group to Participate!
Organizer of the Belmont Bike Bus in Brookswood, Nathan Tiessen, has began coordinating regular family bike rides for anyone in Langley interested in cycling. These rides are a great way to experience and learn about cycling in a low-pressure, family-friendly atmosphere, meet likeminded people who care about the urban environment, and learn about alternatives to getting around Langley without driving. It also helps us find areas for improvement that our organization can advocate for. Since the schedule is often impromptu and flexible, based on availability, the rides and other meetups are coordinated in our Strong Towns Langley WhatsApp community.

Nathan has been featured in The Langley Union for his work on the Bike Bus, which helps break the car-dependency cycle for families.
“Parents don’t feel like it’s safe for their kids to walk or bike to school, so they drive them, so there are more cars around the school, so parents don’t feel like it’s safe for their kids to walk or bike to school. I’d like to help break that loop.”
The routes are on quiet streets or on protected cycling infrastructure, making it safe for all ages. There is also additional safety in riding as a group. We’re really proud to support him and be part of this initiative.
The group will also be used to coordinate to other informal meetups and gatherings to help build our community and stay connected more often, so even if you’re not interested in a bike ride just yet, we still invite you to join!
